There are tons of San Francisco things to do but Alcatraz is at the top of my San Francisco attractions list! Alcatraz is 76 years young!

These are five things I love about taking an Alcatraz prison tour:
Tip: There is only one company (Alcatraz Cruises) who is officially chosen by the state of California and is able to drop people off on Alcatraz Island and let them explore and take the tour.
Make sure if you are buying a tour that it's one that actually lets you step foot on the island. Some tourists make the mistake of buying a tour that only goes around the island on a boat.

If you would like to do more than one tour (go to the wine country, hop-on hop off bus, etc.) and only work with one company choose from one of the following Alcatraz Tours companies:
Alcatraz Tickets (888) 814-2305
Brighter Images (800) 700-3151 or (925) 253-1900
Alcatraz Island Tours (925) 235-7236
The park is part of the Golden Gate Recreation Area and a National Park. Learn more about Alcatraz here.
Tip: choosing one of the above companies is also a good option if you go to AlcatrazCruises.com and they tell you the tickets are already sold out. These companies may have tickets already purchased for Alcatraz tours that are still available.
Alcatraz tours are the very best of San Francisco things to do! Don't miss out. The price of the ticket includes a fun boat ride, a beautiful view of the city and a great audio tour! Visiting Alcatraz prison is a great way to spend half the day. I highly recommend it!
Important tip: Alcatraz tickets often sell out April through October so be sure to buy your tickets at least 2-3 weeks in advance.
