Huntington Hotel San Francisco

San Francisco Lodging At Its Finest

Huntington Hotel San Francisco is a hotel in San Francisco California: my San Francisco hotel review for you is found on this page. The Huntington Hotel rests on top of Nob Hill and really is San Francisco lodging with an incredible history and an incredible view of the city. Some of the hotels in San Francisco have a wonderful past and this is one of them.

This is a hotel in San Francisco California that was the first steel and brick high-rise west of the Mississippi. At one time this was the best hotel in San Francisco and once described by the Daily Herald as the "last word in luxury."

The Huntington Hotel San Francisco

Today the Huntington Hotel San Francisco, the Nob Hill Spa and the Big Four restaurant are owned and operated by the third generation of the Cope Family.

Cool Factoid: In 1950 the hotel owner at the time Eugene Fritz turned the hotel's ownership over to his 14 -year old daughter Dorothy. She was one of the first country's women to own and eventually manage a hotel.

Room At The Huntington Hotel

The hotel was originally an apartment building and in 1945 Eugene Fritz oversaw a two year renovation to turn it into a hotel. Instead of reducing the size of the rooms he kept the original room sizes and because of this you can tell from the picture the rooms are substantially bigger than most other hotel rooms.

The Gorgeous Lobby

The lobby to me just oozes grace and elegance. I can easily picture Lady Diana or Princess Grace of Monaco walking through the halls of this hotel it is that luxurious!

Amazing Indoor Pool

The Hotel is home of the Nob Hill Spa and the treatment rooms are found under the lobby. Where the pool is now used to be a restaurant called L'Etoile. When I visited the hotel the spa was a very busy and bustling place. I have not used any of the services there myself but it looked very posh and nice. I wished I could have got a pedicue there!

The pool area was very clean and spotless just like the rest of the hotel. There were a few guests in robes reading the paper and enjoying their morning coffee when I visited.

Tip: this would be a wonderful place to start your vacation in a very slow and relaxing way.

Swanky Store

The store looked like it was filled with some high priced and luxurious items I don't think I could possibly afford!

Grace Cathedral

This hotel is kitty corner to the Grace Cathedral and Huntington Park.

Interesting note: it took 53 years to build Grace Cathedral and it was finished in 1964. It has two labryinths and a Keith Harin scuplture. When you go be sure to visit the 1/4 mile labryinth and do some meditative walking.

Cable Car Line

The California Street Cable Car passes right in front of the hotel as you can see from this picture. If you look where that blue van is there is a very, very, very steep hill and it was fun for me to watch people try to get their cars up the hill when the light turned green. A couple of cars totally peeled out there.

Mulholland Suite 901

Mulholland is a maker of luxury leather goods and they have teamed up with the Huntington Hotel to create two-room spacious suites with warm gold, cream and bronze colors. The suites are sprinkled with Mulholland's custom leather accessories and you guests receive a special edition leather business card case and another extra gift upon leaving. I don't know how much these suites are but I can assume you they aren't among the cheap hotels San Francisco prices!
