Mark Hopkins Hotel San Francisco, a San Francisco California hotel, may be best hotel in San Francisco California. Tip: In the SOMA area there is another InterContinental Hotel San Francisco on Howard Street - make sure you don't confuse them!
The hotel I am talking about on this San Francisco hotel review is the Intercontinental Mark Hopkins Hotel on Nob Hill overlooking the city. If you are looking for a great view this might be one of the best of the San Francisco California hotels to get that sweeping classic view that I just love of San Francisco.

This hotel was built by railroad tycoon Mark Hopkin's at his wife's request. He preferred to live frugally. It was built in 1926 and is a combo of Spanish Renaissance architecture and French chateau. It has hosted statesmen and celebrities alike.
Located at the top of a very high part and high end of San Francisco called Nob Hill is where you will find this hotel. The hotel is 17 floors high and gives you some great views of the city.

To visit this hotel I climbed to the top of Nob Hill and I can tell you by the time I reached the top I was huffing and puffing. When I got to the top the views were well worth while but the hike did take my breath away.
Tip: if you plan on walking a lot make sure you bring good walking shoes (definitely not uncomfortable heels!) and prepare yourself to walk up some serious hills.

Tip: get a drink with a view at The Top Of The Mark which is a San Francisco icon.
Look for the room's northwest corner nook which is named "Weeper's Corner" for the wives and sweethearts saying goodbye to servicemen going overseas in World War II.

After climbing to the top of the hill I found the entrance to the hotel filled with cars and a lot of people coming and going. I must admit for being a four star hotel it was not very impressive. It felt more like a high class parking lot than the entrance to a fancy hotel.
Tip: there are three cable car lines that are close to the hotel.

Tip: ask for a room up as high as you can. Some guests have complained about street noise during the week.

The Mark Hopkins Hotel San Francisco has a great view that will take your breath away. It is located in a prestigious area of the city called Nob Hill and is one of the hotels in San Francisco California that has many repeat visitors.
Even though the hotel doesn't have a pool and some other amenities the sweeping views of this San Francisco California hotel make up for it. I recommend the Intercontinental Hotel San Francisco if you are going to spend a lot of time on Nob Hill and don't mind being a little out of the way of most San Francisco attractions and either taking the cable car or walking.
