USS Pampanito

The USS Pampanito is a claustrophobic look into real life on a submarine during World War II.

Here are some interesting facts about the USS Pampanito:

  • Sank 6 Japanese warships and damaged four others.

  • Submarines during the war represented less than two percent of all U.S. Navy personnel but they were responsible for fifty-five percent of all Japanese tonnage sunk which included a third of their warships.

  • Submariners were the highest percentage of men lost of the U.S. military: 24%

  • More than 3500 men in 52 submarines did not return.

  • They say they are on "eternal patrol".

  • Today all submariners are volunteers.
