Muni San Francisco

Muni San Francisco is officially known as the San Francisco Municipal Railway. It is the city's extensive streetcar and bus system and runs above and below ground throughout the city.

Here are the ins and outs:

  • Adults fares are $1.50
  • Seniors/disable/students are 50 cents.
  • children under 5 are FREE
  • Exact change is required.
  • Transfers are issued when you pay your fare and are good for 2 boardings on all MUNI lines within time on transfer.
  • Keep your receipt, transfer or MUNI pass to show as Proof of Payment.
  • MUNI maps are available at drugstores, bookstores, TIX Bay Area on Union Square and Hallidie Plaza Info Center.
  • Maps are also displayed at transit shelters and Metro stations.
  • MUNI passports can save you money. They cost $11 per day, $18 for three days, and $24 for seven days.
  • Passports are good on all MUNI vehicles including cable cars.
  • Passports sold at Powell & Market Cable Car Turnaround Booth, Hyde & Beach Victorian Park Cable Car Turnaround, TIX Bay Area on Union Square, and Hallidie Plaza Visitors Center at Union & Market.
  • MUNI buses have the line number, name and destination on the front of them.
