Clam Chowder In A Sourdough Bread Bowl

I love sour dough bread and seafood – yummy! It’s so hard for me to resist – that’s why I go to Fisherman Wharf every time I visit San Francisco.

One time we went and my daughter had just gotten her food and a seagull knocked it out of her hands and gobbled it up before I could turn around!

This area is about two blocks west of Pier 39 and consists of sidewalk seafood vendors, lots of boats to watch, street performers and plenty of tacky souvenir shops.

Alcatraz prison

The Rock

One of the biggest San Francisco attractions is The Rock where no prisoner ever successfully escaped. Some great movies were made about it . . . like Escape from Alcatraz and The Rock.

You can go inside an actual 5’ x 9’ jail cell and see where Al “Scarface” Capone lived! Plus when you visit you get to take a ferry ride and get out on the San Francisco Bay. Make sure this is on your San Francisco things to do list. Alcatraz history is so fascinating.

Pier 39 San Francisco

For Your Things To Do San Francisco List - Sea Lions

I never get tired of Pier 39 because it gets you out over the bay with some wonderful views and the quaint shops are fun to poke around in.

Chocolate caramel turtles are my biggest weakness from my favorite Pier 39 San Francisco store - Chocolate Heaven.

I never get tired of visiting the sea lions. Everybody loves them so be sure to not miss out. There is always a great “king of the hill” contest going on for your entertainment.

The New Cool Rocket Boat and The Blue and Gold Fleet

San Francisco Bay Cruises

You can:

  • Go on a Tiburon Ferry, Angel Island Ferry or Oakland Ferry ride

  • Take a ride on the fun Rocket Boat
  • Take a sunset cruise under the Golden Gate Bridge
  • Take a ride when you go out to Alcatraz Prison

  • There are lots of different ways to experience San Francisco attractions out on the Bay.

    Fisherman Wharf

    Aquatic Park

    San Francisco Beaches

Even though you won't find swimsuits but sweatshirts and jeans on beaches in San Francisco they are still breathtaking. I love to just pick up lunch and sit on the beach with a good book. Don't miss Aquatic Park at the west end of Fisherman Wharf.

    ATT Park

    San Francisco Giants Stadium

    AT&T Park

AT&T Park is located right on San Francisco Bay just east of the Bay Bridge. During games there are boats on the bay trying to catch home runs.

Who can pass up a ball game? Put a San Francisco Giants game on your San Francisco things to do list right now.

    GhiradelliSquare

Great Place To Get Some Chocolate

    Ghiradelli Square

Ghiradelli Square is a fun place to go. You can see chocolate being made and even get a free sample - yum!

It's just a couple of blocks from the Hyde St. Pier - go west past Aquatic Park and you're there and in chocolate heaven.

    Ferry Building

    On The San Francisco Bay

    Ferry Building San Francisco

The Ferry Building has just undergone an extensive renovation. It has a great farmers market, fabulous restaurants and some quaint shops to poke around in. Parking is very limited so be prepared to do some walking to get there but it's worth the effort.

    Embarcadero

The San Francisco Waterfront Late Afternoon

    Embarcadero San Francisco

The Embarcadero refers to the area along the San Francisco waterfront. It starts with ATT Park/Pac Bell Park and goes to the Ferry Building and then to fun Pier 39 and moves to Fisherman Wharf and then ends at the Hyde St. Pier.

The Embarcadero has the majority of San Francisco attractions by far.

    maritimemuseum

    Aquatic Park

San Francisco Maritime Museum And Park

The San Francisco Maritime Museum has been undergoing renovation. In September 2009 it just opened complete with brand new beautiful hand painted murals.

Aquatic Park is located at the end of The Embarcadero just west of Hyde Street Pier. It's a great place to relax, people watch and get your toes wet.

Just One Of Many Things To Do San Francisco

    San Francisco Ferries

Driving, navigating and parking to reach San Francisco attractions is no fun - so taking one of the many San Francisco Ferries is a great alternative.

There are many choices to choose from - the Oakland Ferry, the Tiburon Ferry, the Angel Island Ferry and more. And no . . . they don't all go to the San Francisco Ferry Building like you would assume.
